Greater Cabarrus Athletic Association.

We began as an association to serve the homeschool community in the Cabarrus, NC area but our reach is much greater into the surrounding counties of Rowan, Mecklenburg, Union, Iredell, and even further in certain circumstances. We have had families travel from the Cleveland, Catawba, and Union counties as well as families from South Carolina to participate on teams.

GCAA currently offers sports for both genders during the active seasons for each sport. Please contact the sport director / coach for details of each team.

• Within the conference of NCHEAC, there are specific requirements that each player must meet. First and foremost, the family must have a homeschool registered with the state Department of Non-Public Education – www.ncdnpe.org – that can be verified for participation in conference play.

• Outside of conference play, the eligibility of the student is much more flexible. It is the intention of GCAA to provide for the homeschool community but we also maintain a desire to include non-homeschool students when opportunities are not afforded to them and the opening exists on a given team. It is determined on a case by case basis.

• Public or private school athletes who have the opportunity to play for their school are not considered eligible for GCAA teams.

• GCAA fields teams that serve the middle school and high school age student. Not every sport has a complete offering across all ages or levels. Please contact the sport director and/or coach for details.

• The general age range of athletes is 11 – 18.

• GCAA plays in two conferences and fills the schedule with many non-conference opponents as well. The sports that participate in conference play vary based on the offerings of each conference as well as the competitiveness of each conference.

o NCHEAC – North Carolina Home Educators Athletic Conference – teams vary by sport.

o MSAC – Mid-State Athletic Conference – teams vary by sport.

• Most non-conference opponents are private Christian schools or Charter schools local to our region and are determined by the director/coach/scheduler for each sport and can vary year to year.

• As a homeschool based program, we do not have a centralized facility that serves each of the teams. We use a variety of facilities that we rent or use during off-hours. Please contact the sport director and/or coach for details.

• Each sport has different needs and the costs vary. Please contact the sport director / coach for details.

• GCAA is a 501-c3 organization that operates within the guidelines provided by law. All moneys collected are intended to cover known expenses of both the team and the parent organization. Donations for specific team needs and fundraising are welcome and encouraged. Please contact a sport director for more information regarding the needs and/or opportunities to contribute.

• Each coach is hand selected after interviews and background checks. It is the desire of GCAA to have qualified coaches who can lead, mentor, and equip the students in the sport they are playing with the foundation of honoring our God in the process.

• Most of the coaches are volunteers, many being parents or adults committed to the sport and the program.

• A coach has a benefit of having one child play for free for the program.

• New sports are considered when a need or an opportunity presents itself. Most programs start small but there is much planning that is needed for the program to start successfully.
